Le Morne is widely regarded as one of the best kitesurfing destinations in the world. But when is the best time to visit? What wind conditions can you expect? And what should you bring? This guide covers everything you need to plan the perfect kite trip to Le Morne, Mauritius.
The Main Kite Season: May to November
The southeast trade winds arrive in Mauritius around May and blow consistently through to November. This is the prime kite season at Le Morne, with winds typically ranging from 15 to 30 knots — strong, reliable, and perfectly suited to kitesurfing. July and August are generally the windiest months, often delivering powered conditions for experienced riders.
The Shoulder Season: April & November
April and November are transition months — the wind is less consistent but can still deliver excellent sessions. These months are great for intermediate riders who don't mind waiting for the right conditions, and the island is less busy with tourists.
The Off-Season: December to March
December through March brings the Mauritian summer — warmer temperatures, lighter winds, and the occasional tropical cyclone. Kitesurfing is still possible, particularly on the north coast where conditions can be more favourable, but Le Morne is generally quieter during this period.
